Metal braces are universally used, by both adults and children, to straighten and align teeth, and improve their function, appearance and oral health.
Some teeth don’t erupt in the same way, angle and position as the others, causing deep bites, cross bites, mis-aligned teeth and even unsightly gaps.
Metal braces remedy this by the use of attachments ,which impose gentle pressure to realign teeth to a more favourable position. These braces are also used to create extra space for dental bridges and implants.
Treatment length varies according to the complexity of the work and the degree of tooth movement required.
Firstly, stainless steel brackets are manoeuvred into position, then affixed to teeth with bespoke dental cement, by an orthodontic expert. Next, wires (either stainless steel or titanium) that slot into the brackets are attached with elastic rubber bands, that create the slight forces that move the teeth into the right position.
Periodically, larger elastic bands are used for more complex positional adjustments. Metal braces are attached to the front of the teeth, so are more visible than other treatment methods, but are relatively less expensive.
Modern brackets are smaller, less visible and easier to clean. However, if you are concerned about the appearance of braces made from metal, we offer a number of alternatives, such as ceramic braces, Invisalign and Incognito orthodontic systems.
They are the quickest and cheapest option.
it depends on how much realignment is needed. Commonly, treatment is from 6 months – 24 months.
Oral hygiene is very important while wearing braces, especially if they’re fixed. Please see your hygienist regularly.
