What’s is included under NHS Dental Care?
NHS dental care provides the treatment you need to help maintain your oral health. This includes keeping your teeth and gums healthy and free from pain.
Treatment is therefore limited to just the essentials required to maintain your basic oral health. This includes: dental examinations, fillings, root fillings, crowns, bridges and dentures.
Other treatments such as orthodontic treatments and dental implants are available on the NHS too, but only if there is a proven medical need for them.
NHS Orthodontics (teeth straightening) is most commonly offered to children under 18, who have qualified for the treatment according to a rating system called the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN).
What’s not included under NHS Dental Care?
NHS dental treatments offer functional solutions to dental problems in order to maintain good oral health. It does not offer cosmetic treatments or advanced treatments, and uses functional rather than aesthetic materials for the treatments it does cover. For example, NHS treatment would use amalgam (silver metal) for fillings, whereas private care gives the option of having white fillings to blend in better with your teeth’s natural colour.
Patients wanting to access these cosmetic treatments or discreet restoration options can pay privately for these services.

NHS Band 1 – £23.80
This covers an examination, diagnosis (including X-rays), advice on how to prevent future problems, a scale and polish if clinically needed, and preventative care such as the application of fluoride varnish or fissure sealant if appropriate.
NHS Band 2 – £65.20
This covers everything listed in Band 1 above plus any further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or removal of teeth but not more complex items covered by Band 3.
NHS Band 3 – £282.20
This covers everything listed in Bands 1 and 2 above, plus crowns, dentures, bridges and other laboratory work.
How to sign up
There are three options, you can either pop down to the practice and collect a form to fill out and then drop it off once complete. You can also download the form, fill it out and drop it off at our practice, or alternatively you can also complete our online application.
